So, this is Our Story...
Sam was in the same fraternity as Alexis' high school friends. S/O to Keegan Kennedy, Nick Fishetti and Charlie Blood for the introduction.
Alexis worked at Shady Gators and Sam worked at Tantara at the Lake of the Ozarks. When the two weren't working 8 hr shifts they were boating together out on the water or making pizzas on the grill at Sam's lake house which was under construction at the time.
It was like any other Mizzou game day. Alexis was working at Shiloh, a local Columbia bar, and Sam was having a day with the boys. They met later that night at a sandwich shop downtown where Sam insisted she be his girlfriend. Alexis kindly declined and told him to ask another time maybe when he didn't just spend the entire day playing beer olympics. So he asked again the very next morning and she agreed.
The day after graduation Alexis drove out to CO to help care for her brother who was sick at the time and Sam immediately started working his 9 to 5 at Boeing. We didn't have a plan or know what life had in store but wanted to make it work. Over the next two years Sam probably put 10,000+ miles on his car driving back and forth from STL > Chicago.
Nanny (Alexis' grandma) got used to hosting Sam on the weekends always offering him interesting dinners such as her infamous "Chinese American Surprise." Which Sam was lucky enough to try on his first visit to her house. This Nanny novelty is basically Chinese take out with a side of KFC fried chicken. Fortunately, this did not scare Sam away and he returned weekend after weekend.
When Covid hit both of our jobs became remote which allowed for us to spend more time together. We decided to 'social distance" back where it all began - down at the Lake! We spent every evening whipping the golf cart to the gas station to buy lottery tickets and sitting out on the dock watching the waves roll off into the sunset. Sam eventually took a new position at Boeing which allowed for him to move to Chicago. This took many of his friends by surprise as most thought he already lived there.
Sam took Alexis on a birthday snowboarding trip to Colorado. The day started off with mimosas and snowmobiling (Sam drove.. don't worry..). Later in the day, we returned to our cozy A frame cabin where Sam set up his camera in the back yard. He got down on one knee with the mountains in the background and asked Alexis to marry him. She jumped a million times and then said YES!
